While this was presented as a chance to earn back their place in society by working hard for the common good, they understood that in fact they would be slave labour, sent to colonize an unexplored planet. All they knew about Auriga Prime was what the probes told them: it had water, temperate zones, plant life, and plenty of metals in the crust.
In fact, the planet Auriga once hosted a major settlement of the galaxy-travelling ancestors known as the Endless. In addition, the planet was still orbited by a functioning (and well cloaked) defensive system, which sprang eagerly to life upon the arrival of the Success. Within a few minutes, the ship was nothing but a few large chunks of metal falling toward the planet.
Every set of holding cells also functioned as an escape pod, so the ship let itself disintegrate and the surviving prisoners fell bruised but (temporarily) alive and (momentarily) safe to the planet below. Safe, that is, until they realized that they had crashed through some sort of facility of the Endless, down to a sub-basement so deep and ancient it might as well be called a dungeon…

Quelques centaines de criminels condamnés étaient transférées vers le système Auriga à bord de la barge-prison "Le Succès". Bien que ce leur fût présenté comme une chance de regagner leur place dans la société en travaillant dur pour le bien commun, ils avaient compris qu’ils seraient des forçats, envoyés pour coloniser une planète inexplorée. Tout ce qu'ils savaient d'Auriga Prime était ce que les sondes avaient rapporté : elle avait de l'eau, des zones tempérées, de la vie végétale et une croûte planétaire riche en métaux.
En fait, la planète Auriga hébergeait autrefois une colonie majeure d'une race ancestrale voyageant à travers la galaxie et connue sous le nom d'Endless. Et, se trouvant toujours en orbite autour de la planète, un système de défenses fonctionnel (et bien camouflé) revint avidement à la vie à l'arrivée du "Succès". En moins de quelques minutes, le vaisseau fût réduit à l’état de morceaux de métal tordus s'abattant sur la planète.
Mais, chaque ensemble de cellules de détention servaient également de capsule de sauvetage, de sorte que, lorsque le vaisseau se désintégra, les prisonniers survivants s'écrasèrent, meurtris mais (temporairement) en vie et (momentanément) en sécurité sur cette planète. Über das Spiel
Ein paar Hundert verurteilte Straftäter wurden an Bord des Gefangenentransporters „Success“ in das Auriga-System verschifft. Man hatte ihnen erzählt, sie könnten sich die Chance auf eine Rückkehr ins gesellschaftliche Leben verdienen, wenn sie hart für die Gemeinschaft arbeiten würden. Aber keiner der Häftlinge hatte auch nur die geringsten Zweifel daran, dass es sich eher um Sklavenarbeit handelte, um einen noch nicht erkundeten Planeten zu kolonisieren. Alles, was sie über Auriga Prime wussten, war das, was die Forschungssonden ihnen mitteilten: Es gab dort Wasser, gemäßigte Klimazonen, Pflanzen und viele Metalle in der Planetenkruste.
Tatsächlich befand sich auf dem Planeten Auriga einst eine große Siedlung der galaxiereisenden Ahnen, die heute unter dem Namen „Infiniten“ bekannt sind. Außerdem befand sich im Orbit des Planeten ein noch immer funktionsfähiges (und getarntes) Verteidigungssystem, das mit großer „Begeisterung“ auf die Ankunft der „Success“ reagierte – innerhalb weniger Minuten hatte es das Schiff in einige große Klumpen Metall zerlegt, die nun auf die Planetenoberfläche hinabstürzten.
Da jede Zelle ebenfalls als Rettungskapsel fungierte, löste sich das Schiff auf und die überlebenden Häftlinge stürzten angeschlagen, aber (vorerst) lebendig und sicher auf den Planeten. Nun ja, sicher waren sie zumindest so lange, bis sie erkannten, dass sie in eine Art Anlage der Infiniten gestürzt waren ... ganz bis in das unterste Untergeschoss, das so tief und uralt ist, dass es den Namen „Dungeon“ durchaus verdient ...

While this was presented as a chance to earn back their place in society by working hard for the common good, they understood that in fact they would be slave labour, sent to colonize an unexplored planet. All they knew about Auriga Prime was what the probes told them: it had water, temperate zones, plant life, and plenty of metals in the crust.
In fact, the planet Auriga once hosted a major settlement of the galaxy-travelling ancestors known as the Endless. In addition, the planet was still orbited by a functioning (and well cloaked) defensive system, which sprang eagerly to life upon the arrival of the Success. Within a few minutes, the ship was nothing but a few large chunks of metal falling toward the planet.
Every set of holding cells also functioned as an escape pod, so the ship let itself disintegrate and the surviving prisoners fell bruised but (temporarily) alive and (momentarily) safe to the planet below. Safe, that is, until they realized that they had crashed through some sort of facility of the Endless, down to a sub-basement so deep and ancient it might as well be called a dungeon…
