片道勇者はウルフエディターやシルフェイドシリーズで知られるSmokingWOLF氏が開発13周年を記念して開発したローグライクRPGです。ローグライクに横スクロールという概念を持ち込むことで新しいゲーム性を完成させるとともに、クラス解放や装備の持ち越しといった周回プレイの要素などのやり込み要素もあります。トレーディングカードや実績、日・英切り替えなどの機能が付与されて、STEAMに登場いたしました。
この世界は『闇』に支配された世界です。『闇』は、ゲーム中、常に画面左側から世界を喰らい続けて行きます。『闇』に飲まれればゲームオーバーとなります。引き返すことはできません。右に強制スクロールするマップを進み続けながら、世界を救わなければなりません。
街で用事をすませている間も、戦っている間も、世界は強制的にスクロールされます。
おそらく初期に最も多い死因は、ダンジョンに突入したものの脱出が間に合わなくなり、そのまま画面端に飲み込まれてしまうケースではないでしょうか。
他にも、
「ぎりぎり間に合うと思ってアイテムを拾いに行ったら、ちょうど画面端に飲み込まれた」
「前から来た敵と長期戦を繰り広げていたら、敵と画面端に挟まれて逃げ場がなくなった」
